Skating on the Sky: Selected Poems by Claudia Reinhardt is a collection of poems focusing on nature, family, community, the seasons, and the senses. The book is divided into topical sections, each highlighted by inspirational quotations and nicely composed full-color photographs taken by the author. Claudia has had a long career in writing and editing, and her poetry has appeared in numerous print and online journals and in anthologies.

One main challenge needed to be met when typesetting and designing Claudia’s book. Several poems had long lines, including haibun poems, which were difficult to accommodate in a typical 5.5 × 8.5 or 6 × 9 trim. After an attempt at designing for 6 × 9 and some thought and discussion, we went with a very unusual trim size for a poetry book: 8 × 8. It couldn’t have worked out more beautifully. The photographs at the beginning of each section are full bleed and fill the page in striking fashion, while the complementary colors chosen for the background of the quotation pages lend a richness to the opening of the section. Claudia’s verse fulfills the promise of the visuals of the book, making it a well-rounded presentation of her literary and photographic skill.

The book was produced as a premium color print-on-demand paperback with matte cover.
